Introduction of CO.NO domains, Monday 1 November 2010
Following the launch of the Dutch co.nl sub-domain last year, the same private company will shortly be launching the Norwegian co.no version on Monday 1 November 2010.
The co.no suffix is intended for registrants who cannot currently register a top level .no domain. For example, individual persons in Norway, companies without a local presence in Norway, or Norwegian companies that have already registered 20 .no domains
The launch of co.no will take place in two steps:
Sunrise – Monday 1 November 2010 The Sunrise period will begin on 1 November 2010 and will last until 31 January 2011. During this period only holders of a valid trademark will be able to register their .co.no domain name. Sunrise applications will undergo a validation process via Deloitte Laga.
Go Live – Tuesday 22 February 2011 The co.no sub-domain will open to the general public on a 'first-come, first-served´ basis.
Please Note: .co.no is a sub-domain managed by a private company. It is not affiliated with the official .no registry. As such, it does not enjoy the same rights and protection that .no domains have.
Additional information will be published as it is received. Should you have an interest in this suffix, please contact your NetNames Account Manager.
Israel introduced IDN domains on Friday 1 October 2010
The Israel Internet Association (ISOC-IL) has expanded to register domain names containing Hebrew characters. As a preliminary process prior to opening the Hebrew IDN domains to the general public, ISOC-IL has launched a Sunrise process in accordance with the standard global practice. Sunrise applications may be submitted before Friday 29 October 2010.
The rules for purchasing a Hebrew IDN are as follows:
1) Only the following parties are eligible to submit IDN Sunrise applications: • Owners of registered Israeli Trademarks • An Israeli Legal Entity • Only holders of a valid ISP License issued by the State of Israel Ministry of Communications, which is in full force and effect on the Effective Date 2) IDN domain names must exactly match the trademarks or entities' registered names
3) Any rights in a registered domain name, whether under .il, any gTLD or otherwise, does not in and of itself grant any eligibility, during the Sunrise Period or thereafter, for the registration of Hebrew IDNs. For each eligibility criterion, Sunrise applications may only be submitted for Hebrew IDNs under a single second level domain (co.il, net.il, etc.)
The process for purchasing a Hebrew IDN is as follows: Applications which are approved in the Sunrise will be reserved for a three month "Protected Registration Period", counted from the launch of General Registration. During this period, the approved domain can only be registered to the holder listed in the Sunrise application. If the right is not exercised during the Protected Registration Period, it will expire leaving the domain name available for registration by the general public.
The launch timetable is as follows: • Friday 1 October – Saturday 30 October 2010 Sunrise period • Saturday 30 October – Sunday 21 November 2010 Examination and publication of approved IDNs • Sunday 21 November – Saturday 4 December 2010 Applications for reconsideration • Sunday 5 December 2010 – General Registration Please contact your NetNames Account Manager for more information.
